Description
A section of a shirt front which has been elaborately embroidered in a variety of detached motifs worked in polychrome silk floss. This pattern may be perpetuated from an Aegean embroidery of the eighteenth century. This piece is said to have been found at Fustat, with material of a much earlier date.

Turquoise, red, and tan on natural color linen.

The upper section of the proper left side of the shirt (BZ.1933.34b) was removed after early photography. It does not match the shirt (BZ.1933.34a), although it is the same technique and features similar decoration.
Fibers removed from the textile make up BZ.1933.34c.
