Dumbarton Oaks’ collection of Byzantine and early Islamic textiles includes small fragments and major monuments like Hestia Polyolbos. The objects, ranging in date from the second to the seventeenth century, emerged from the textile-making traditions of Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Indian subcontinent, and the Byzantine heartlands and attest to the technological and artistic prowess of late antique and medieval weavers.
